NWABA receives $2,500.00 grant from Nike

Vancouver, WA—The Northwest Association for Blind Athletes (NWABA) is pleased to announce that we have been selected as one of the many community organization to receive a $2,500.00 grant from Nike for our sporting programs.

“This wonderful grant from Nike will enable us to continue to provide programs and opportunities to blind and visually impaired people in the Northwest.” – said President Nick Wilks.

Thank you so much to everyone who voted and sent along the information. It is because of you that we will be able to make a difference in the lives of more athletes who are blind and visually impaired.

NWABA Board Openings

The Northwest Association for Blind Athletes (NWABA) would like to invite all interested individuals to apply to be on our Board of Directors. Board members are essential to the success of NWABA. Through your volunteer involvement on the board of directors you can make a difference in the lives of people who are blind and visually impaired in Washington, Oregon, Idaho and Montana.

Basic Duties:
Vote on Scholarship Applications
Raise awareness about people who are blind and visually impaired in the community
Help raise funds to support athletes in sports like Powerlifting, Goalball, Judo, Skiing, Wresting and Track and Field
To help “Enrich the lives of the blind through athletics.”

Powerlifters Excel on the Platform at WA State Championships

Vancouver, WA—March 8, 2009—The Northwest Association for Blind Athletes is happy to announce that our Powerlifting team has returned from the 2009 Washington State Powerlifting Championships in Tumwater, Washington.

The team consisted of Coach Billy Henry (Vancouver, Washington), Andrew McDonald (Everett, Washington) and Rachel Talley (Lynwood, Washington) all team members did fantastic each taking first place in their individual category and fifth place in the team division.

“We are very proud of our athletes who participated in this competition. It is a qualifying meet for the International Blind Sports Federations (IBSA) World Blind Powerlifting Championships in Miami, Florida this July”. Said Programs Director Billy Henry.
